In order to pass on the native language and ballads to students and to enrich perceptions of their own culture, Jia-Ping Branch of Pintung County Wutang Elementary School founded Kaviyangan Ballad Troupe in 2015. During the conference, we invite Kaviyangan Ballad Troupe as well as elders in Kaviyangan to perform at TNNUA various Paiwan performing arts such as dancing, ballads, mouth flutes and nose flutes, thus promoting Austronesian traditional performing arts and intangible cultural heritages. Soon after its foundation, Kaviyangan Ballad Troupe attained outstanding achievements such as winning the first prize in the Pintung Folk Song Competition. We performed in the Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade dinner party, Amis Music Festival, Lāu-Jia̍t II Percussion Concert, Tainan City Government Ethnic Affairs Commission Christmas Lighting Ceremony, Asia Pacific Research Integrity Network Meeting 2018, 2018 Taiwan Aborigines Music and Dancing Festival, and the 2019 Honolulu Festival in Hawaii.

Matahari Ensemble

Matahari in Indonesian refers to the sun–no matter which ethnic groups we are, we all possess the capacity for radiance. Our Chinese name 日央人兒(rìh yang rén ér) refers to people circling under the sun, and when combined with the Chinese characters 映倪(yìng ní) results in a pronunciation very similar to the the Chinese pronunciation of the word ‘Indonesia’. We try to blend the experience of working with Indonesian musicians and undergoing cultural shock into our own creations. The fusion inside diverse Indonesian ethnic groups even inspires us to arrange different musical instruments of the world side by side. In addition to promoting Indonesian folk songs, we create new music together. The theme of our work adheres to emotions and inspirations from living in abroad and is a distinctive voice which belongs to our generation. Our performing arts exchange program “Java Pek Gong” with the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta proudly received the grant “Youth Cultural Gardeners” from the Ministry of Culture. We performed at the 2018 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Chiayi, 2019 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Pintung, Southern Branch of The National Palace Museum, 2018 World Music Festival @Taiwan, Kaohsiung Public Library, National Cheng Kung University, TNNUA, and Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts. Besides performing arts, we engage in promoting Indonesian art culture, being performing instructors in different universities and Southeast Asia-themed bookstores and holding Indonesian culture and art lectures for high school teachers or students in Southern Taiwan in recent years. Since the end of 2019 we have been instructors in the Pintung Angklung International Family Ensemble, training members from different countries and ethnic groups to play the traditional Indonesian bamboo musical instrument Angklung and arranging folk songs of different countries to enrich its performance. Matahari has received much praise during our performances in various venues and establishments in Southern Taiwan.

Innahue Music Studio

Innahue music studio, a group of young talented musicians who are enthusiastic about music, was established in 2017. Its original creation concepts centre on combining traditional elements, enlightening personal character and dedicating themselves to the best performance imaginable. Innahue studio was named after a kind of flower — Innahue which is perpetual and ubiquitous in Taiwan and has the ability to adapt to different environments. The members of the studio desire to show confidence and elegance through musical works.
In the contemporary and various music environment, the creative concept of Innahue music studio is to visualize the musicians’ style which includes a progressive route between traditional culture and creation. Not only do all the members research traditional and classical music in their own fields, but they also put together elements extracted from traditional songs with their new creations. They attempt to nurture the context of traditional music to the future generations; meanwhile, they work on songs featuring contemporary trends to showcase Taiwanese creativity and vitality to the world.
